4 yr old grandaughter with Trich

I am trying to gather any useful information to help my son and daughter-in-law deal with their daughter who has this problem. They have shaved her head twice in an effort to stop the pulling but it has not helped. She also sucks her thumb while pulling her hair. Mostly she does this while watching TV and at night when going to sleep. She starts pre-K this August and I know she will have other kids teasing her, etc. They have gone to see a therapist and they said she would outgrow it. After researching I'm not so sure. She is a happy, well adjusted child otherwise. Anyone have a child this young with this problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

i might know how to help.....

i might know how to help..... im eleven years old and have the same problem. im going to my firt retreat (possibly)for hair pullers in CA they give you advice and teqneqes.please check it out(www.trich.org)
i also think shaving a four year olds head isnt gonna help you need to maybe keep her emotions low cuz she might do it for attention or stress i deal with stress because of my parents divorce.and if done one thing that has REALLY helped .. i put... acrilic nails on because your thumb and pointer finger is the source of pulling so i only put it on those two fingers and so far it has worked .your can try it
hope i helped please right back

Thank you for your input. My

Thank you for your input. My son and his family live in Houston, Texas and she is so young that it is hard to determine her stress level. I know she's been doing this for a couple of years already and does it while she sucks her thumb watching TV and at bedtime. Actually the acrylic nail solution is probably a good one. I know when I had them on my nails I had a hard time doing a lot of things that I could do without them. You are sweet and kind to have responded and I wish you the best of luck in dealing with your problem.
