I stopped and you can too.
I pulled for 30+ years, and now I am free from pulling. I am sadden to read all the posts here about needing help in finding a cure for pulling. I too use to post such heart felt pleas for information and for guidance and understanding about this disorder. I called it the MONSTER, because it takes over and you feel completely hopeless. Let me just tell you, it is only in you and in no one else the answer for quitting. You have to really search deep within and then only will you find the answer. My Trichotillomania nightmare started up when I lost a very good friend at the age of about sixteen. I am now 50 with a hairstyle where I can wear my hair all the way down, finally in my adult life. I feel like a completely different person, and I am. I feel for you all and I know you too will figure out the right formula in helping you obtain a pull free lifestyle. If I can help just one person stop pulling I will be thrilled. Best WH

I started pulling my hair out
I started pulling my hair out at age 32, now i'm 45 years old. I can quit pulling for a short period of time...but cannot find a solution to
STOP. I woke up one morning and said this is it..no more pulling, i'm going to stop pulling my hair out...that was 8 months ago, most of my hair grew back and it looked beautiful i was so proud of myself..i did it on my own, i got my self esteem and confidence back. I styled my hair and even was not ashamed to go to the hairdresser. I was free of this compulsion... (so i thought) i knew that my hair looked good and there was no way i was going back to looking like a freak again. Well here i am...joining this forum and lashing out.. i could not resist the temptation..as i was watching tv one night i saw my hand just move towards my head ( it was if my brain had no control to stop it) i said to myself i would just pull out 1 strand because i wanted to feel the sensation of my hair folicle plopping out of my saclp..well.. 1 became 2, then 2 became 3, and so on you know the drill..you go into that unconcious uncontrollable state of pulling...only when you are satisfied you have obtained sufficient pleasure, the episode is over...until you feel the urge again. On Monday Sept. 7th 2009 i told myself i would not pull out my hair out.. 4 days has passed... yes i still get the urge to pull,,,my hand still involunterilly go towards my head to pull, but i release the strand and do not pull it out... i am resisting temptation. PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO CONTINUE TO DO THIS AND FINALLY STOP PULLING MY HAIR OUT.
Hi Katy, This disorder is so
Hi Katy,
This disorder is so frustrating. I just got your reply to my post. I began pulling at age 16, when I lost a very dear friend to a car crash. This started my pullig spree, it set it off.
It seems you began pulling later in life age 32 is later than most pullers. Do you know what began the pulling for you? Did something tragic happen to start it?
Here is my email Wanda1writes@charter.net
I will do my very best to try and help you.
I know firsthand how you are feeling and I want to help.
