family connection?

I've got trichotillomania and trichophagia, and my sister and mom both have trichotillomania. But neither my sister nor I know how to confront my mom and try to get help. Because after reading more I'm scared... I had no idea that my innocent little habit for the last 6-7 years actually had the potential to kill me.
So besides the obvious fact that I need to go get help soon, is there any proven family connection?
