Hi I just found this site and i am so glad.
I have been pulling my hair and eating it for over 30 years, I am
now 45yrs old and i can't stop.
I was very young when I stared, I don't know or can't remember why
this started.
I have many bold spots all over my head and i now have some
stomach pain. Does everyone with this have to have surgery?
Hi Sukie, I had the same
Hi Sukie,
I had the same issue as you for the same amount of years, I am also 45. I am now cured due to an amino acid I have been taking for the last 3 months. It is NAC or N-Acetyl Cysteine, a vitamin supplement. I take 1200 mg a day, and my pulling stopped within a few days of taking it. It is not very expensive, is all natural, has no side effects, and also has other benefits such as antioxidant protection, as well as helping skin and hair. You can find it on the Web as well as in any vitamin store.
If you are going to take it, also take 2-3x as much Vitamin C as well. Meaning, if you are taking 1200 mg, then take at least 2400 mg of Vitamin C. NAC detoxifies the body and if Vitamin C is not taken, you could get kidney stones. Again, I have had absolutely NO side effects, and actually my hair is a lot healthier.
I have also been taking a hair growing regimen for the last year that has helped mine grow back. I take:
1500 mg Alta Silica a day (organic horsetail)
1500 mg MSM a day
1500 mcg (15 mg) of Biotin a day
This combination has been remarkable, and works quickly to strengthen your hair and make it grow. I have had no side effects from these vitamins either, they are also all natural.
There is hope for this problem. Perhaps you'd like to try the NAC and see how you do. The dosage is 1200 mg but studies have shown that 1800 and 2400 mg are sometimes needed. You can try 1200 mg for 2 weeks and see how you feel and can always increase the dosage if necessary.
If you have any questions, just let me know.
Best wishes,
Debbi
