Hey All..

Hi. This is the first support group I have joined. I am 25, and began pulling my beautiful hair out by the roots just about 3 years ago. It has continued pretty steady since then, and gone through various stages of intensity. Just recently though, I have slowed WAY down--Enough to allow me, for the first time in 3 years, today, to leave the house without a wig. It was like going out without a bra on. Very weird. But I did it!

My hair was Always the envy of all of my girlfriends. It was long, thick and gorgeous. And I always used all of the best products on it too. I never used a curling iron--hot rollers only--as I didn't want to fry it or make it look unhealthy. My hair was my Identity, seriously. I loved it very much.
And this is precisely why I CANNOT understand the reason I began to rip it out!!
Insane. Just insane.
I have never talked to anyone who has trichotillomania, nor do I know of anyone who has it near me. I think it would be awesome to share and relate with others who have this strange and frustrating illness. Please help??

Hello there :] I too

Hello there :]
I too understand,
I loved my hair
I used to have long Brown wavy hair that would fall loosely down my mid back.
And I would run my fingers through my bangs and back around my scalp.
But then trich came along;
I loved my hair,
Your not alone though,
And the first step to the cure is finding support

Hi Elizabeth, I think it's

Hi Elizabeth,

I think it's great that you're reaching out for help and advice! You must not be alone with this, and be assured that there are many others with trich all around the world. I myself got really relieved when I started talking to others about my problem. You're right about this habit being "insane" - why on earth should we do it to ourselves? As for me, the answer to this question is beyond me. I don't know why I do it, I just know that sometimes its stronger than me.
