i want to stop what i'm doing!!!

hello fellow trichsters. I am almost 18 years old, will be in june, and have been pulling my hair since i was fourteen. a little over three years now. I joined this site in hopes of being able to STOP the urges of pulling out my hair. I pulled out ALL of my eyebrows and eyelashes, selected places on my scalp, and even my pubic hair. Luckily for me, if i comb my hair just right with a few clip in extensions thrown in and wear makeup, it's not entirely noticable. however i can never go swimming, let my friends brush my hair, go to a salon, or ANYTHING i used to do. I don't think the hair i've pulled will ever grow back since i've been doing in in just a few spots for so LONG. I would let it grow, pull it again. Let it grow, pull it again. Let it grow, pull it again. Researchers believe the hair follicles only have a limited number of times they can be regrown. But i still want to stop NOW to save the hair i've still got. I'd rather be THIS way than be completely bald. I hope to have contact and make friends with others on this site, since i KNOW they will be able to accept me for who i am.

I've been pulling my eyebrows

I've been pulling my eyebrows and eyelashes since I was around 10. I'm 30 now and only pull my eyebrows. Not all of the time anymore. I don't know how I stopped pulling my eyelashes. Just one day, I wasn't doing it anymore. As far as your hair not growing back. It's different for everyone. I've been doing it for 20 years and my eyebrows still grow back. I pulled my eyelashes for almost 15 years and they are completely back. They may not be extremely long, but I can go out with no mascara on and no one looks twice. Some aren't so lucky. I saw on the show Obsessed a 27 year old woman who pulls hair from her scalp. She wears wigs. She said she owned around 40 wigs. She finally let her therapist help her and the last they showed of her, her hair was all back. It looked like a mans haircut, but she looked beautiful.

I know it's been some time since you wrote this. I hope you're doing well.

Thank you. Yes i'm doing very well. four months pull free! my eyelashes are back COMPLETELY as yours are, though i still like to wear fake ones to add to the drama "goth" look i love so much. my eyebrows are back too! (insert yay here) and i still pull at my scalp at times, though not often, and i have stopped ON MY OWN. no outside help whatsoever. my hair IS growing back, the select places that i've pulled have THICK bushy patches growing in the place. before i developed trich, i had THE THICKEST hair you could ever imagine. so even in the worst part of my condition it didn't look too bad. Just looked like i had fine hair. It still looks rather thin, but it's coming back with a VENGENCE. (AVENGENCE?) eh.....oh well. anyway, i imagine after a few years those patchy bushy spots on my head will be fully grown and i can enjoy having long thick hair again. hopefully.
