trichpbezoar removed - still pulling!

My 13 year old daughter just had major stomach surgery to remove a very large trichobezoar. The surgeon said she was fortunate to have survived such a large mass filling her stomach. She has been pulling for almost 4 years. I hoped that the surgery would be enough to will her to stop. However, she is still pulling. I wish I had a mom to talk to who has a similar circumstance to share with.

Need some help

Hey everyone,

My name is Betsy. I am currently a senior in college. For my internship project, I am going to be doing some presentations for hair stylists, salons, and beauty schools. The presentation will be to educate hair stylists about Trichotillomania & help them to better understand their clients. Before I start doing the presentations, I am trying to gather some anonymous data from those who suffer from Trichs.

I am trying to get a minimum of 100 responses by the end of December; and, I currently have 43.

New member here...

Hi everyone,

I don't know whats wrong with me... :| HELP!? 16 and scared.

So, I found out I had Trich a few months ago when i was doing research on why I was pulling out my knuckle hairs, leg hairs, arm hairs and sometimes on my toes. I've had it since I was 12 years old from what i Believe to be as PTSD because of dramatic events that happened in my family.

I am though, confused and scared I must have more than Trich which freaks me out.

2 year old started pulling hair-worried mom

Our 2 year old daughter began to pull her hair out when she started daycare 2 months ago. She now has a large bald spot on the side of her head. I don't know what to do.
Has anyone tried cutting the hair? Does it work? I want to cry when I think about cutting her hair!
Sometimes I wonder if I just leave work, and stay home with her, will she stop?
I'm not so sure where to start....
Thanks!

tips

i have not had any problems with pulling for the last several months. i am no longer obsessed about my eyelashes and it feels good to finally be free from it. here are a few tips that i would like to share with everyone. i understand that everyone is different and what works for one person may not be what works for the rest, but i think that if someone has information that they have found helpful, it is important to share it with others.

u can beat trich!

Everyone who suffers from trich should know that their situation is not hopeless! Having wrestled with this disorder for the last 14 years, i can finally say i am now free from its grasp. I began pulling my eyelashes when i was 11 and it quickly became something i had no control over. I dont think there was ever a time over the last decade and a half that i had a full set of eyelashes. Even when i wasnt pulling them, i was constantly obsessed with them.

Psychiatric Service Animal

Hello,

I'm working on a new series for Animal Planet about psychiatric service animals helping those that suffer from mental illness. One of the things service dogs can do is help to stop OCD behaviors like trichotillomania.

We are in the process of casting for the show and are looking for people that might be interested in getting a service dog for mental health issues. If anyone is interested in learning more, please email me at casting.beyondhumanhelp@gmail.com

Thank you.

klonopin as a treatment for trich?

I find that my pulling is directly related to how much anxiety I have and how much worrying I do. It seems to have gotten a whole hell of a lot worse with the added stress of applying to grad school. My friends who take the drug for anxiety suggested that I might want to try it to relieve some of the pulling. Any experience with this treatment?
